A sea of pink as two and a half thousand ladies descend on Festival Fields for the Race for Life 2013
Including yours truly...
And this rather amazing pink poodle
Not sure Phaolin would stand for that :)
And of course the almost ubiquitous clowns
A minutes silence and a very noisy warm up...
And then we were off!
Having tried hard to actually do some kind of fitness exercise for two months before this years race I wanted to beat my time from two years ago when I did it last. (That was the year of the torrential rain when we all got soaked through.)
Just before the half way mark I spotted my own personal fan club...
And actually managed a smile.
I started this year from the jogger's flag and although I knew it would be hard for me to actually jog all the way round, especially in the heat we have here today, it meant I had plenty of space to jog or walk as I wanted which was a vast improvement on my previous attempt.
Around the 4k mark I started to struggle a bit but the end was definitely in sight and I ran the final half k at a decent rate (for me) which all resulted in a time of just over 32.5 minutes which I am absolutely thrilled with. Over 10 minutes faster than 2 years ago in the rain!
I collected my medal and parked myself on the grass with one half of the fan club for a well earned rest...
And yes my face now well and truly matches the colour of my t-shirt!
Then it was home, once we managed to get out of the car park and a triumphal picture in the garden.
Yesterday I made these
So now it is time to go sit in the garden with a celebratory glass of something cold, one of my lovely cupcakes and some hooky, before I settle down later to watch the Canadian F1 Grand Prix and hope that someone has given McLaren a serious kick up the posterior for the race. Well I can live in hope!
Note completed Blooming Flower Cushion in front of the blanket I'm making for daughter's new house. It's almost done so himself will be able to take it with him when he goes to visit at the end of the month.
All in all a lovely and very fulfilling day.
Love O. xx
